La Liga: FC Barcelona Vs. Sporting Gijon 720p HD

 
                                                                                                              After winning everything that there was to be won last seasonn including The Treble, The La Liga Title, Copa del Rey and  Champions League and the recent Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, Barcelona will open their 2009-2010 season on home ground at the Camp Nou against Sporting Gijon, today.

Even though Eto'o is not with the catalan club anymore, Barcelona have a stronger suqad then ever with the likes of Leo Messi, the new Uefa club player of the year, Xavi Hernandez, Uefa club midfielder of the year and the newly signed super star, Zlatan Ibrahimovich which will pair with Thierty Henry in Barca's attack.
NOTE: Due to world cup qualifiers running this week some of the Barca players will miss this opening La Liga match.

It will surely be an enterntaining match with Barca looking to open their season on the right foot, no pun intended, in front of their home fans.

English Premier League Wigan vs Manchester Utd 720p HD

After a one goal struggle win and a loss, Manchester United need a victory today when they go to DW Stadium to take on Wigan Athletic.

Note on quality:
As you will probably notice the image quality on this one is not as sharp as on the Chelsea-Hull release for example. I have a feeling ESPN took an SD 16/9 feed and enhanced it so it is not true high definition.(thus you also see the black thin bars around the screen my recording device captured) It is nonetheless better then a regular SD broadcast on FSC or GOLTV.
It appears that the 10am Sat match in EPL does not have a true HD international feed.

Many leading figures in the game have questioned whether or not Manchester City can win the Premier League title this season. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already dismissed City's chances, however both Harry Redknapp and Martin O'Neill think Mark Hughes' men are contenders.

With the players they have signed over the summer (Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez etc;) you would think that they must be contenders, however it is how they gel together is the main thing. If they lose two or three games on the trot, suddenly pressure begins to mount and the players begin to lose interest, so it is vital Hughes keeps all of his players happy.

So, can City really challenge? I'm still undecided, however one things for sure, I wouldn't be betting against it.

Unfortunatelly this was a technical error on Comcast SportsNet's part (my local CSN HD station) and after I made few phone calls to them the issue was fixed around minute '80 as you will see the screen turning to full HD (see last screenshot).

They have reassured me this will not happen again next week when the teams go back to Emirates Stadium - Correction: CSN HD will show the Athletico Madrid v. Panathinaikos FC match next Tuesday.

NEWS: Spanish LA LIGA in HD on ESPN2

Just wanted to let everyone know that it was confirmed to me by ESPN that La Liga will be broadcast in HD starting on Sept 13th on ESPN2 in the US.

It is no breaking news that ESPN will show La Liga in the US but I was not certain it will be in HD. It is now confirmed, though.

I've texted ESPN at txt@espn.com the following:

"Thank you for EPL soccer in HD on ESPN2. Will La Liga from Spain be in HD also?"

ESPN's response:

"You're welcome. Yes, we'll be showing Spanish League starting Sept 13th, 11am, ESPN2HD"


Greta news for Spanish Football fans. Thanks again ESPN, you have outdone yourselves!
