- Sunderland 1-3 Charlton. Scorers, Sunderland: Gray. Charlton: Bent(2),Murphy. Alan Curbishly will be delighted with this win because last season his teams away form was appauling.
- West ham 3-1 Blackburn. Scorers, West Ham: Sheringham, Reo-Coker, Etherington. Blackburn: Todd. Alan Pardew will be dilighted with his sides win in their first game since they were promoted to the Premiership.
