The winner came courtesy of Andres Iniesta after 116 minutes, but Del Bosque, who was given the bumps by his players, felt Spain were worthy victors.
"It was a very difficult game, with only three or four clear opportunities, but we deserved to win," he said.
"It's a very happy day and everyone on the bench and everyone on the pitch all played their part.
"We haven't had a single incident to distract us over the course of the tournament and we've all got on superbly well as a team."
Goalscoring hero Iniesta, who earned Spain their first ever World title to go alongside their European crown, dedicated his goal to 26-year-old Espanyol captain Dani Jarque, who died of a heart attack last year in training.
"It's incredible," said the Barcelona star, who was overcome with emotion at the final whistle. "This is dedicated Dani Jarque [Espanyol Captain], my family and all the Spanish people.
"It's been a lot of hard work over a long time to get to where we are today."
