Martino overjoyed at "unfair" win
Delighted Paraguay boss Gerardo Martino acknowledged the "unfair" nature of the way his side reached the last eight
The South Americans were level with Japan for 120 minutes before spot-kicks were required to produce a winner.
Eventually, la Albiroja triumphed 5-3 when they kept their cool after Japan's Yuichi Komano struck his effort against the bar.
But following the tension of the shoot-out, the relief was clear to see on the winning manager's face.
"The reason for my tears is because this is an emotional moment for me," said Martino.
"Everybody knows that penalties are unfair, but that's how the match had to be decided and I am happy that we won.
"Japan played as they usually do, they gave us difficulties, but what is important now is that we are through to the next round.
"For now, we are having a party with our fans back in Paraguay. I can imagine the excitement and celebration back there."
