Italy striker Quagliarella optimistic
Azzurri striker Fabio Quagliarella has talked up their chances of retaining the World Cup title despite recent results
Marcello Lippi's men suffered a 2-1 to Mexico on Thursday and were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Switzerland on Saturday in their final warm-up match before the tournament in South Africa kicks-off.
But the Napoli forward, who scored Italy's only goal in Geneva, insisted the results in those matches were of less significance than the fitness gained from those encounters which he believes will help the Azzurri to defend their title.
"The coach asked us to put in a good performance in the final game before we travel to South Africa and I think we did that," said Quagliarella.
"It is normal that against Mexico we suffered a little from fatigue given it was our first test since the end of the season.
"The bottom line is that we arrive at the tournament in the best possible condition and who knows where we can go from there.
"Let's not forget we are still the current world champions."
