Ballack: It is our time

Ballack: It is our time

Michael Ballack says Germany's time has come - and they will beat Spain at the World Cup on Wendesday night

Ballack has been forced to watch from the sidelines after picking up an injury before the tournament began.

And he believes that Joachim Loew's young squad are about to upset the pre-tournament favourites.

"It will be difficult to beat Spain, but this is our time," said Ballack, who should have been leading his country at SA2010.

"Germany have been the best team in the World Cup and just have to keep it going.

"Spain deserved to win the European Championship final against us two years ago, but with the confidence we've gained from our past two performances I think its our moment.

"We're playing the best football in the tournament, just as Spain did two years ago.

"Every team have ups and downs, but its a great skill to peak for a tournament. A German skill, I think England played very well in qualifying but made no impact at the tournament. We're England in reverse."

Ballack joined up with the squad at the quarter-final stage, and has been impressed with their attitude and work ethic.

But he is backing one of the older generation to shine in the abscence of striker Thomas Mueller.

"Without him, Miroslav Klose will be even more important," said Ballack.

"He's an unusual player, who has always needed the trust of the coach. But if he feels the manager likes him, he will play well, and that's what he gets with the national team."
