However, the Dutch and Brazilian teams of 2010 are very different. Built in the pragmatic styles of their respective coaches, Bert van Marwijk and Dunga, they rely on rock-solid defences and lightning-quick counter-attacks for their success.
And they are not about to change those tactics for the nations' fourth encounter at the finals, with the Dutch on a record-breaking 23-match unbeaten run, including four wins in a row at South Africa 2010, and Brazil undefeated in 10 games.
Dunga said: "Of the European sides, the Netherlands are perhaps most similar to us South Americans in terms of technical ability.
"They traditionally produce teams that play nice football. They're not a team that just defends or one that plays a long-ball game. They've got very technical players and we need to be ready for that."
Van Marwijk will also have his side well prepared as they attempt to repeat their 2-0 success over Brazil in 1974, their only finals triumph over the South Americans so far.
"Brazil always make a big impression," he said. "They have a very tough and stable team centred on a pool of six players - four defenders and two midfielders. On top of that, they push four players up front, who always make a difference.
"They continue to play very calmly at a very slow pace, but when these four players up front get the ball, the outcome is really unpredictable, so it's really important we don't lose the ball in the centre of the field.
"We've controlled the play in all our games so far. We've scored seven goals and only conceded two, and we've hardly been in any danger, but I think that's going to change when we meet Brazil."
The Dutch appear to have no injury worries, but Brazil will again be without Elano because of an ankle injury and will also be missing fellow midfielder Ramires through suspension.
However, the five-time champions have sufficient strength in depth to overcome these blows.
