Uganda Cranes assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa has resigned few weeks to their CHAN qualifying tie against archrivals Kenya.
Ssimbwa who took over as coach of the Kenyan League champions Sofapaka last month resigned on Saturday to avoid what he called avoiding conflict of interest since he is now incharge of a Kenyan team.
He said he wants to concentrate on his new job as coach Sofapaka.
“Since my team has seven players in the national team I would prefer to remain neutral, “he said.
“I also want to concentrate a lot more on my club which is currently lying fourth in the Kenya Premier League. I at least want to defend the title and to win the CECAFA club championship in Rwanda May 15-20.”
Ssimbwa disclosed that he had already briefed the Uganda FA president Lawrence Mulindwa and spoken to head coach Bobby Williamson.
Sofapaka has drawn three consecutive matches since Ssimbwa took charge last month.
Ssimbwa has been assistant to Williamson for the past two years and helped guide Cranes to the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title.
He quit KCC to become the first Ugandan coach to handle a Kenyan team since Robert Kiberu and David Otti did in the eighties.
