Manchester United left-back sends out warning to World Cup rivals and declares Les Bleus's "big" intentions in South Africa
Patrice Evra launched a tirade against critics of coach Raymond Domenech's side and sceptics of their hopes of winning the World Cup this summer.
Although the former Monaco and Nice defender admitted France must learn to play as a team he was adamant that they would be a genuine contender for the title.
"I believe in this team and I am going to this World Cup to win it, not for a safari," said Evra.
"Otherwise, I would stay at home. This is not a big team but we have big personalities. It is time that these individuals become a big team that beat all others."
Domenech will be replaced by former Bordeaux manager Laurent Blanc after the tournament in South Africa and when asked about the decision to announce his replacement before the World Cup kicks off, Evra dismissed the question as further evidence of the media's negative attitude.
"This question is proof of incompetence," added Evra. "It confirms that everyone thinks we're going on a safari. This is the World Cup."
