Messi unfazed by pressure

The 2009 Fifa World Player of the Year, however, has so far failed to hit the same heights at international level that at club level have seen him compared to the greats of the game such as Pele and Diego Maradona.

Nevertheless the 22-year-old insists that the pressure placed upon him does not faze him and he is full of hope that he can recreate his Barcelona performances in the World Cup in South Africa and lead his country to their third world title.

"I am going to try and do what I do at Barcelona," said Messi.

"I am full of hope and really desire to do well. I am used to the pressure. I play for Barcelona who are one of the most important teams in the world and where it is obligatory to always win.

"For me, Argentina is a serious candidate for the title even if nobody puts us among the favourites, and I believe that is a good thing for us."
