Penalty feints banned at SA2010
International Football Association Board move to disallow dummying or pausing at the end of spot-kick run-ups before World Cup
Fifa's general secretary Jerome Valcke has revealed that the laws of the game concerning penalty kicks have been re-written to prevent the taker from gaining too much of an advantage over the goalkeeper.
IFAB has allowed for players to interrupt their run-up but has moved to punish penalty takers with a yellow card and a retake if they feint once they are about to take the shot.
"Feinting in the run up to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted," said Valcke.
"However, feinting to kick the ball once the player has completed his run-up is now considered an infringement."
The powers of the fourth official have also been increased in an attempt to improve their ability to assist the referee during a match.
