Venue guide: Durban
Moses Mabhida Stadium
The stadium is located in KwaZulu Natal in the city of Durban on the grounds of the King's Park Soccer Stadium which was demolished in 2006. The stadium is named after Moses Mabhida, a former General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP).
The stadium will have the capacity to hold 70,000 spectators during South Africa 2010; this can be reduced to 54,000 for local football and rugby matches or can be increased to a maximum of 80,000 for a future Olympic Games. The stadium has an adjoining indoor arena, sporting museum and sports institute.
The stadium design bears some similarities to England's Wembley Stadium, and features a 350 meter long free span arch that will transform the Durban skyline.
Moses Mabhida Stadium will host a total of five first round matches, one Round of 16 and one Semi Final.
